CARRIE'S STORY
I had never participated in a service or mission trip but felt compelled to say "yes" immediately.
In 2013, while watching the Super Bowl with friends, I was asked if I would be interested in traveling to Peru with a group from Journey Church to learn more about the Hovde House and how Journey could partner with the organization.
I had never participated in a service or mission trip but felt compelled to say “yes” immediately. In August of 2013 I arrived at the Hovde House and my heart was changed forever. I will never forget the welcome we received from the girls. So many hugs. So much laughter. So much joy.
Then I was faced with the reality of why I was meeting these precious girls and what they had endured. As I learned of their stories my heart shattered, but as the week went on, I was struck by the love and joy that still overflowed. Only Jesus can do that. And there was Jesus in every smile, every hug, every conversation, every tear.
I left those grounds knowing I could never forget my time there. I knew I had to come back. And now I have found my second home. Every time I leave, pieces of my heart are left behind.
